Who is Laurie Pulido?

TLaurie has developed an international reputation as an expert in the area of learning design, learner analytics, and the blending of education and technology to drive outcomes. She is a frequent speaker at industry events covering a wide range of topics related to these areas.

In this Episode…

Gil and Laurie discuss her background and how she started in exploring the idea of making sure learning is accessible to all people, as well as the process of learning design and why it’s so important.

“It’s kind of taken on this whole realm of ‘how do we present something on a screen that somebody can learn from?” says Laurie. “It has really morphed into something more like learning, experience, design, which is blending thinking about a human-centered approach to learning, thinking about how do you make learning relatable to people and orient them towards goals – but then doing that in a browser, and doing that on a device.”

Laurie also discusses the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and how her background made it so that she began looking through that lens when designing online learning content. “When you’re designing learning, you have to think about where somebody coming from, and how they are relating to what you’re teaching, and how you’re presenting this material to them,” she says.

One of the key takeaways from Laurie: “The origins of student success can be found in being relatable and motivating students to be engaged.”
